The School The Chinese American International School (CAIS) is an independent, PreK-8th grade school in San Francisco, CA. CAIS was founded in 1981 with an enrollment of just ten students; CAIS now enrolls nearly 500 students from PreK through 8th grade. The Position Position summary: The Chinese Learning Support Teacher provides instruction to students who need individual support to strengthen Chinese Language skills, as well as, provides essential learning support to aid in students’ Chinese language development and partners with classroom teachers to ensure effective instructional strategies.
Specific duties (not limited to):
Schedule for class observation, meetings, and SST sessions, as well as, individual or small group lessons Periodically adjust numbers of lessons and frequency based on the progress students make Observe students in homeroom Discuss with classroom teachers of specific skills needed to develop in CLS class Develop strategies and materials to help students develop targeted skills Use preview, review, and focus on language application as strategies to help learning Develop strategies to use combination of class materials and self-developed materials to strengthen targeted skills Keep teachers informed of skill based areas of focus Maintain communication with parents about their child’s progress Communicate student’s learning progress and assessment with Director of SST and Chinese Program Director Maintain continued student files to track learning scope/plan, progress, and assessments Work with homeroom teachers to pre-assess students current level Work with Chinese Program Director to develop assessment tools for evaluating new applicants Summative assessment for a student’s overall progress Remain up to date with second language acquisition and teaching strategies Required Qualifications: Knowledge of 2nd language acquisition, instructional strategy and assessment Bachelor’s degree, training, or teaching experience in Chinese language education Bilingual: Fluent in both English and Mandarin with native or near native Mandarin proficiency Initial and continued tuberculosis screening clearance Initial and continued criminal background clearance from DOJ, FBI, and Child Abuse Index
