Founded in 1911, The University of Hong Kong is committed to the highest international standards of excellence in teaching and research, and has been at the international forefront of academic scholarship for many years. Tenure-Track Professor in Chinese Language Education (Ref.: 201300929)

Applications are invited for a tenure-track appointment as Professor in Chinese Language Education in the Division of Chinese Language and Literature, Faculty of Education, from September 1, 2014 or as soon as possible thereafter, on a three-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal, or on tenure terms for exceptionally outstanding candidates.

Applicants should possess strong academic credentials, outstanding academic leadership capabilities, extensive experience in conducting externally funded and rigorous field-based research and a distinguished record of scholarship. They should be strongly committed to high-quality scholarly research and teaching in Chinese language education, and able to teach a wide range of subjects at various levels from among the following areas: Chinese educational linguistics, Teaching Chinese as first or second language, Chinese curriculum studies, and assessment in Chinese language. Expertise and experience relating to the IB Chinese curriculum would be desirable.

The appointee will be required to teach on courses offered by the Faculty at various levels from undergraduate to doctorate, supervise research postgraduate students, contribute actively to research, and undertake administrative responsibilities.

A globally competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered. The appointment will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 15% of basic salary, as well as annual leave, and medical benefits. Housing benefits will also be provided as applicable. At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income.
